Love Story in SFGATE- May 15, 2011
Thinking of Neil on Valentine’s Day and the memories we shared. This article, written in 2011, makes me smile and chuckle. The picture above was taken at my friend Elaine’s 21st birthday party. I got stuck sitting next to Neil, who kept eyeing my legs. I was not impressed. Little did I know what was to come!
I so appreciate that this article exists as a snapshot of our story:
“They both grew up in New York boroughs and attended the same recreation center on Saturdays, but neither Denise Sherer Jacobson nor her husband Neil Jacobson could have predicted they'd end up together.
"I couldn't bother with him," says Denise, now 60, with a sparkle in her eyes. "Too young." But when the two met up again in Berkeley in 1982 at a potluck, the great gap in their ages - a whopping two years - seemed to have lessened. "I was just a baby," says Neil, her husband of nearly 30 years.
He laughs. Coincidently, this laugh was what first attracted Denise. Neil, a jokester, was funny then and is funny still.
What attracted Neil to Denise? Her legs, she says. Now both are cracking up, laughing and smiling…”
