A Prayer for Peace

Poems have been written, songs have been sung

A prayer on the lips of the old and the young

Hearts have yearned for peace to be

The sacred place of community

Still, in towns and cities, nations worldwide

Fathers have mourned, Mothers have cried

To see our precious children go to war

All the flowers have gone, to return home no more

What will it take, we asked of each other,

To build lasting peace, to love one another

To put down our weapons and push egos aside

To go toward the light where Shechinah resides

To have respect and compassion, embrace others for being

All creatures of earth, with hurts worthy of healing?

The intent, is our answer, peace in action and word

Sim Shalom, Adonai, let our voices be heard!
